Youth Garden Clubs Information

National Garden Clubs, Inc., and The Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania promote gardening with youth of all ages through the formation of clubs for Ecotots, Juniors, Intermediates, and High School students; and through 4-H groups, Scout groups, and schools. The National Garden Clubs, Inc., is fostering a working partnership with the Girl Scouts of the United States of America in a broad based improvement and beautification program. Garden Clubs throughout the nation can provide leadership, donations of materials and/or financial assistance to promote civic beautification and environmental responsibility. Contacts are made through local Scout Councils.

TYPES OF YOUTH CLUBS
JUNIOR GARDEN CLUBS
(Grades One Through Six)

The goal of Junior Garden Clubs is to educate youth to enjoy growing and identifying many types of plant material and teach awareness and protection of our natural resources. Clubs are sponsored by a senior member garden club of the State Garden Club and must have a minimum of four members and meet five times during the year. The clubs must be registered with the State Junior Gardeners Chairman. Member clubs are encouraged to promote State and National Awards that are applicable for Junior Gardeners. Junior Garden Clubs should be registered annually with the State Junior Gardeners Chairman. See the registration form at the end of this page which may be downloaded and then forwarded to the chairman along with the $2.00 registration fee. Deadline is November.

INTERMEDIATE GARDENERS
(Grades Seven Through Nine)

The goal of Intermediate Gardeners is to educate youth to enjoy growing and identifying many types of plant material and teach awareness and protection of our natural resources. Clubs may be formed: 1. Outside of school by a senior garden club member, held at a home, a library, etc. In school, working with teachers to provide garden club activities in classroom time; hold club meetings as an after school activity; or hold meetings in an inner city school. 3. Working with established youth organizations such as 4-H clubs, Boy and Girl Scout groups, Campfire Girls, church groups, Y-teens, etc. Intermediate Gardeners Clubs must have a minimum of four members and must meet five times a year. The clubs must be sponsored by a member garden club of a State Garden Club and registered with the GCFP Intermediate Gardeners Chairman and NGC.

HIGH SCHOOL GARDENERS

The goal of High School Gardeners is to further stimulate interest in horticulture, conservation, floral design, or allied topics and increase the awareness and protection of our natural resources. Sponsoring garden clubs can work with established youth organizations such as Scouts, 4-H Clubs, F.F.A., Science Clubs, Church Youth Groups, etc. In working with schools, it is best to work with administration and teachers to determine the best time for meetings and to determine the specifics areas of interest for the group of students involved. High School Gardeners must have a minimum of five members who attend the ninth, tenth, eleventh or twelfth grade. There must be a minimum of five meetings per year covering any aspect of National Garden Clubs, Inc., objectives. Clubs must be registered with the GCFP High School Gardeners Chairman.
