Webmaster's News

How to have your information included on the GCFP Website

Your webmaster is using an Apple-Mac computer and software. That means all of the information you email to her must be in a file type that she can open, then "cut and paste" from the file and then add it to the correct web page.

If you are using Word Perfect, you must save the file either in Rich Text Format (.rtf) or convert it to an Adobe Acrobat file (.pdf) I have tried to convert Word Perfect files to something I can read and it just doesn't work on this end, you have to prepare it on your end.

I can use Word Document files (.doc) or Adobe Acrobat Reader files (.pdf).

Because I have the software "Word:Mac 2004", you can email me almost any file you create in Word. The title of the file would look like:

This is mine.doc

The only version of Word that I can't open is Word 95. The software is just too old for me to be able to read with Word:Mac 2004. I also can't use Microsoft Publisher files. Those have to be converted to a Word document, or Acrobat Reader.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is a FREE software. You can convert any file from any software to an Adobe file. Think of it as a language translator. All you need to do is "Save as pdf" The title of the file would look like:

This is mine.pdf

You can download a FREE copy of Acrobat Reader for Microsoft from the Adobe web-site using this link:

http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/

To change your document to a PDF file, you have to SAVE it as a PDF or Adobe Acrobat format file.

If you too are running an Apple-Mac Computer, the FREE Acrobat Reader for Mac can be downloaded from:

The Webmaster is happy to add your club events that are open to the public to the Club News page. If you send it in to The Keystone Gardener, it will automatically be added to the web page.

Chairmanship changes that are sent to The Keystone Gardener, will also be automatically updated.

Information on any of the GCFP sponsored schools that are sent to The Keystone Gardener, will automatically be added to the appropriate web page. However, please send a computer file copy of the registration form to the GCFP Webmaster, and it will be made available for download along with the school information,

Information on Annual District Meetings, will be placed on the District News page. You will need to send me that information directly. Please send a computer file of the "call" or invitation, and it will be made available for download along with the meeting information.

The editor of The Keystone Gardener, and the GCFP Webmaster work closely together to share information on the "happenings" in the world of the GCFP.

If you are a GCFP State Board member, and you have information to update or share, please email it to me. If you aren't comfortable with email, the information will have to be type-written (not hand printed), so that I can scan it, and then convert it to a computer file. The converter does not recognize hand-written information.

Why you don't see personal email addresses on this website & how you can email people who are listed as contacts for a school course or other chairman positions.

Why aren't personal email addresses shown on the GCFP web site?

Spammers--People who "scrape" email addresses and collect them from Web sites; they just gather email addresses by the thousands and then send you email about things you don't want.

How you can still email people from this web site:

The GCFP webmaster "hides" your email address behind your name, to avoid Spammers. A link is made from the name of the person others may need to send email to.

It will look like this:

Joanne Q Public, 987 S. Any St, Everytown, PA 12345, (123) 456-7891

When you click on the name--Joanne Q. Public--it will open to her email address.

((If your curiosity is too much for you, when you click on Joanne Q Public--you'll end up at the GCFP home page--I had to do something to make the link look right))

When you see a name that is underlined, and a different shade of blue from the rest of the information on the page, anywhere on this web site--that's an email link.

The webmaster needs to know the real email address of the individual in order to make the link, but the Spammers won't see it, and they won't be able to collect it.

You can find the webmaster in the 2007 directory issue of The Keystone Gardener.

Please include "GCFP" in the email subject to avoid the "Trash" or "Spam" folders of your recipient.
