PHS Community Greening Awards

Each year in addition to running the Philadelphia International Flower Show, The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society recognizes outstanding public planting in Pennsylvania communities that improve the quality of life through horticulture.

One of PHS' 2011 award recipients was The Ames True Temper Community Garden, which the Penn-Cumberland Garden Club helped to establish and maintain.  The garden is located next to the Ames True Temper Company headquarters in Hampden Township. The garden consisted of 127 raised bed plots.  Over 200 pounds of the vegetables were donated to various local food banks.

Penn-Cumberland Garden Club co-chair's Amy Hatfield and Francesca McNichol were honored to receive the award for all of the gardeners at the community garden. The award was presented by Pennsylvania's First Lady, Sue Corbet and Drew Becher, President of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.
