Penny Pines Project

Penny Pines is an on-going National Garden Clubs Inc. project. Your garden club can participate in a meaningful and practical conservation project by contributing $68.00 to a Penny Pine plantation. These donations are used by the US Forest Service or the Pennsylvania State Forester to replant burnt or otherwise damaged trees. Seedlings are replacements for trees native to the particular area, not necessarily of the pine variety. All donations will be used in Pennsylvania.

Under a Conservation agreement, the Forest Service will do the planting, using your donation together with Federal funds, and will provide to the plantation the same protection from fires, insects, and disease given other forested areas.

The plantations are a part of the regular National and State Forest reforestation program planted on burned-over and brush-covered areas which are potentially productive timberlands. Planting sites are selected by the Supervisor of each National or State Forest. These plantations provide soil protection, watershed protection, soil stabilization, future harvestable timber, as well as beauty and shade for recreation.

Contributions may be made from year to year, but must be a minimum of $68.00 (or multiples of). Checks made payable to "GCFP ", with "Penny Pines" on the memo line, and mailed to:

Patricia Beall
168 Evergreen Hamlet Road
Pittsburgh, PA 15209-1353

A completed donation form must be included.

Penny Pines Awards will be presented each year at the NGC Convention to States which have donated the greatest number of plantings and whose clubs demonstrated the most ingenuity in promoting education in conservation by creating public awareness of the need to protect and manage our National Forest resources.

Let's all publicize our objectives and establish even more Penny Pines Plantations for the reforestation of our forests!
