JOIN A GARDEN CLUB

Are you interested in learning about horticulture, learning to create a floral design, working with youth, participating in horticultural therapy programs, learning about environmental issues, or participating in beautifying your community?

Membership in a garden club affiliated with The Garden Club of Pennsylvania can provide these learning experiences and the opportunity to share your interests with members who can become lifelong friends.

Membership in any of the garden clubs of the GCFP is open to all regardless of gender, age, race, ethnicity or religious affiliation.

What Do Garden Clubs Do?

In general, garden clubs meet monthly in homes or in a community building; they have members of all ages, backgrounds, interests; and they set up their own by-laws, programs and projects. Most every club has at least one or two community projects that are ongoing.  Just a few of these community projects are:

  1. Beautifying a main street or a park by planting and maintaining containers or flower-beds or, clearing an unsightly area in the town by planting it with shrubs, bulbs, and annuals.
  2. Working with Habitat For Humanity to develop landscaping for new homes by providing plants, tools, and assisting residents in planting their homes.
  3. Working with seniors through horticultural therapy programs at nursing homes and senior centers.
  4. Working with children to plant flowers or bulbs around their schools or helping them plant butterfly gardens in a public area; presenting programs to scouts, 4-H, and to School classes; establishing youth clubs for children of various ages who meet on a regular basis throughout the year.
  5. Holding Standard Flower Shows which are open to the public to enter and to view.  Through flower shows, garden clubs can inform and educate the general public about horticulture, floral design, crafts, youth gardening, and other garden club activities and special projects highlighted in the educational exhibits.

Garden clubs provide stimulating and informative programs for their members on a wide range of topics such as:

There are many benefits to belonging to one of the member clubs of the GCFP. As a member you will develop lasting friendships with people who share your interest in gardening, floral design, and community service. You will gain useful knowledge from programs that you can apply in your home, yard, and everyday living.
