Environmental Studies School

Purpose

Environmental Studies Schools are open to the public, garden club members, spouses, friends, and others interested in furthering their appreciation and understanding of our natural surroundings. Each course in the series of four can be taken in sequence or independently of the others and taken for the interest, learning and enjoyment. In order to take the course for credit, the student must be an active member of a member club of National Garden Clubs, Inc., or a non-member, who is in the process of becoming a member of a member club of National Garden Clubs, Inc. The student must subscribe to The National Gardener, National Garden Clubs, Inc., magazine. Upon successful completion of the four courses and passing an open-book examination with a grade of 70 or better, the student will become a Nationally Accredited Environmental Consultant.

Garden Club members and non-members may attend the courses for personal growth and enrichment without taking the examination, but will be required to pay all fees and pre-registration for the course. Certificates of Achievement are available for non-credit students upon completion of each course.

"The Living Earth" --Environmental Studies School studies air, land and water from new perspectives with Course I being an introduction. One third of this first course content covers Ecology and Environmental Science. The second third covers Earth life, i.e.: plant biodiversity, urban forestry and backyard wildlife habitat. The last third covers action ideas you can use today. A two hour field trip completes the course.
